First the facts.

Google will name its next Android release as – Kitkat. The same Kitkat which you and me munch almost every day or every week. This has been reported as non financial, contra deal, which means no money has been exchanged. Google had decided on the collaboration at the back of last year, and quite impressively kept it under the wraps till it was announced few days back. While Google’s clout will help the chocobar get some real push in the online buzz over its rivals , on the other hand Nestle will publicize the Android logo on more than 50 million KitKat bars in 19 markets across five continents.

Kitkat

The KitKat website, which takes the form of an Android product announcement, has earned plenty of praise on Twitter. Why Google agreed to it? Now that remains a mystery however, for Nestle it was a scoop of sorts. Their rivals must be rubbing their eyes in disbelief. One guess why Google might have done it, is to use it as a case study for similar associations for the future which can be used to improve branding of its other products better.

Why this news is important for you? We often spend a lot of time in promoting our brand in search engines or social media , why don’t we try out real world partnerships for cross promotion. The same logic with which websites used to indulge in link exchange has been used at a higher level for branding purpose in the Google Kitkat deal. So, if there are companies/businesses around you, with whom you can get into some kind of partnership for mutual benefit, go ahead. Make an offer which can not be refused. Show them how they can benefit from you and ensure that you benefit from them.

For example, companies which offer seo tools can strike a partnership with seo agencies. You recommend our tool and we recommend your agency. Similar collaboration can be worked with design and content agencies. Doctors can work out similar arrangement with medical Insurance companies and so on.

What has to be kept in mind is – ethics should not be compromised while striking such a deal. It has to be a win/win situation for all including customers and not just the deal brokers. Remember , every business exists because of their customers and if their interests are compromised, no cross promotion is worth trying.
